Amy L. Collins
Amy Collins is the founder and owner of Amy L. Collins, PC, a firm that provides independent third-party services for common benefit consulting and auditing in multidistrict litigation and state court coordinated proceedings nationwide. Amy is an attorney with more than a decade of litigation experience, the vast majority of which was spent as a litigator focused solely on mass tort litigation.
MDL Common Benefit Consulting and Auditing Services
Amy offers comprehensive, customized common benefit consulting and auditing services at all stages of litigation for lead counsel, fee committees, special masters, and courts in multidistrict litigation and state court coordinated proceedings. Her work includes advising on and developing the submission and review process, including drafting orders and protocols for review of time and expenses, as well as conducting the actual reviews. She also assists with developing recommendations for allocation of fees and reimbursement of common benefit expenses.
Amy’s more than ten years of mass tort MDL practice experience is one of her most significant assets in providing common benefit services. That background uniquely positions her to provide insightful assistance in her consulting work. Amy demonstrates an extraordinary command of all the aspects of the common benefit process. Using her finely honed organizational and analytical skills, she works efficiently without requiring micromanagement.
Her understanding of the inner workings of mass torts and billing practices in MDLs enable Amy to design and conduct analyses that facilitate the work of lead counsel, fee committees, and special masters in processing common benefit time and expense submissions. She generates firm-specific and litigation-wide in-depth reports and data as part of the process. Her work enables courts, lead counsel, and fee committees to make informed decisions and quickly conclude the common benefit fee allocation and expense reimbursement process.
Common Benefit Background
Amy’s background in common benefit auditing began when she worked on the transvaginal mesh (TVM) multidistrict litigation. Amy served the TVM Fee and Cost Committee as a time and expense reviewer and presented her findings to the TVM Fee and Cost Committee. The time and expense reviews and the reports she generated were a factor used by the TVM Fee and Cost Committee and ultimately by the Court in its Fee Allocations.
While working for the TVM Fee and Cost Committee, Amy developed a thorough command of the detailed process and analysis that accompanies common benefit review and auditing. Within a fairly short time, her exceptional proficiency caught the attention of other leadership counsel, who later asked her to take on common benefit auditing responsibilities in a different MDL matter.
Ultimately, Amy made the decision to focus her professional work on providing independent services for MDL common benefit consulting and auditing through her own firm, Amy L. Collins, PC. Amy now works exclusively on providing these customized services in multidistrict litigation and state court coordinated proceedings.
